      Hi Vondell,

Thanks for your questions. Because I answered those questions on a previous FAQ, I won’t wait until the deadline, I’m just going to share my previous answer with you.

However before I do, I want to encourage you to not give up on your goal of learning how to play by ear. The reason you haven’t been able to do it yet is because the other courses haven’t taught you how to understand the language of music. Just learning songs and musical riffs and runs doesn’t mean you can play. Rather, if you can figure out and understand songs, musical riffs and runs on your own, then you can play.

Anyhow here’s the answers to your questions:

Question 1: What do I play between chords. In other words what notes do I play for fills?
Question 2 : How do I maximize my practice sessions?

I can play by ear, figure out fat chords in a song and figure out a song in its key. So I feel like I understand why it sounds good I just don’t understand why it works because I get confused with numbers. Are there any tips you could give
    me?

Robert: I’m pretty sure I’m going to become a member. But I don’t have a piano. I am thinking of buying one, maybe you could make a few comments about it. I notice you use electric keyboards a lot. I know that regular pianos have pedels, but I can’t tell if you are using pedels or not. Do the electric keyboards have pedels? Why use pedels, or not. I don’t want to buy a cheap keyboard that has cheezy rhythm and chord simulations. I want a keyboard that could be used in small clubs, etc, assuming I can learn to REALLY play. I don’t see any amps on the videos. Are you using an amp? Could you recommend keyboard/amps NOT to buy. Since I don’t know that much about them I don’t want to buy some shiny, sparkleing piece of junk. Is there a problem that you know of them going out of tune? Is there something special about the ‘touch’ of electric keyboards? I have been searching a long time for some truth about music and I think you have it and are sharing it with the world.
    Thanks

So my question is after taking your course, how might you tackle a regular song in the sense of being able to play it? The song “holland road” (piano edition) is an example. You can find this in iTunes and the original artist is Mumford and sons.

      Hi Steve,

Thanks for your question and I look forward to answering it. I listened to this song and the original version and I look forward to breaking down how I would approach learning it. Steve, if you are a beginner in piano, please click on my “8 Day FREE Beginners trial” and go through the exercises so that you have a good foundation to understand my breakdown.

If you are an intermediate player who knows his Major chords, Minor Chords and Major Scales, then that should be good enough.

My question is that I am 57 and I been LEARNING for about 5 years from other courses but my hands and ear are not were they should be as far as recognizing what key an individual is singing in. My hands need some help. I learnt from watching other and it take me too long to get the song. I’m able to play my scales in both hands at the same time. I know my know my numbers in the key of C, F, Bb, Eb good. I know how to form a major and minor triad in every key and I know the inversion of the triad in every key but it seem i’m stuck, now can you help me get to be a church musician for a holiness church and become the music ministry for the choir, that’s my GOAL.

Hi Robert, I would like to ask about your opinion on practising any technique. I am not a pianist, I am a guitarist, but I think that concepts are similar.

So question is: What do you think is the most efficient way to practise any technique.

    a) Practise short amounts of time as often as possible – several times a day (15 times a day for 4 minutes = 1 hour per day)
    b) Practise longer amounts of time every day – 1 hour per day
    c) Any other opinion

Another question I would like to ask is about ear training. Do you think I will be able to play by ear in any key if I do not develop high level of relative pitch ? Also I would like to know what is your opinion on ear training. I saw your video where you explain that everybody can play by ear as soon as they can clap a rythm, however melody is a bit harder to follow than claping rythm …

    Thank you for your time.

Those are some great questions. I look forward to answering them and I look forward to changing your initial greeting from saying that you’re only a guitarist to saying that you are a guitarist and pianist.

you trying to make money the long way around you cannot talk to intermediate musician or advanced musician like that you really have to break a real serious tutorial down but instead you will get up there and play without breaking it down to a intermediate also advance musician I like the way you play war by Charles Jenkins you should have broke that down intermediate or advanced musician but you didn’t think about it you trying to make money I’m trying to help you Reed come in box below

Hi, Robert! I haven’t watched you video yet, but I’d like to post questions that interest me a lot.

I’m learning playing by ear almost 2 years already. But my reaults don’t satisfy me. I can find the right chords (but not always), but I don’t know:
    1) how to put together the melody and the chords
    2) how to make accompaniment various (don’t play just triads, it sounds very boring)
    3) in pop songs the pianists add some notes that are not from classic triads, it’s difficult to hear these notes. Can you advicce how to hear them?
    4) what execise should I practise to improve everything above?

    Thank you in advance
