          Actually, no thing is never common knowledge. As an intermediate player, you have unlocked an understanding to simple things that made the difference to how i conceived a song as a whole. one of my biggest challenges playing intermediate stuff is trying to play the song exactly from hearing the melody chords/harmony and rhythm. I am slowly getting a clear and simple look at the skill of transcription by ear with more confidence now. Thanks Robert. I still have more questions for you though…

    Ok, I have completed cd2. Must mention tr 9 tr 10, are extremely difficult to follow. I ha ve repeated them 4 days on a row, many times and still will have to come back to them. But for the sake of motivation I will continue and mix it with new things on cd 3.

    Hello, just completed vol 1-_CD2. Only two problems with program as of now. One: never explained which fingers to use, you gave number to finger, but not how to apply. Two: Provided little information on how to use chorus with song #3. I’ve never heard the song, and couldn’t hear how the chorus applied. Great program!

      CONGRATULATIONS Daniel!! The 2nd level of your Foundation is set. You also figured out your first songs by ear.

      Great observations.
      #1 – At this point in your development, fingering isn’t important. The most important thing is that you can play the songs. Later on there will be an emphasis on fingering (Vol.1 CD3 will cover that). The beauty of Playing By Ear with AKMS is a freedom and independence that will be developed.

      #2 – The fact that you didn’t know the song but still figured it out by ear after 2 CDs shows that you are right on Play By Ear schedule. Remember a “Chorus” is just another section of a song. If you listen to Vol.1 CD2 Trk. 19, you’ll here a quick explanation of a chorus. However, a chorus is usually noticeable when there are words/lyrics.

      Here’s how you tell the difference.

      A “Verse” has the same melody but different words/lyrics.
      A “Chorus” has the same melody and the same words/lyrics.

    I’ve finished CD 2 and moving forward. I like your teaching method. The 2’s and 3’s I’ve done about 4-5 times each. It took me a while to not panic during the fast tempo exercises. ha ha. I’ve never done this type of piano lesson before but I like it. Talk to you later!
